The Canadian Urban Institute presents:

Impact Oil: Canada vs. Sweden
A look at the different environmental and economic responses since the 1973 Oil Crisis

Wednesday, November 27, 2013
7:30 AM – 9:30 AM
Metro Hall – Room 308/309

The OPEC oil embargo 40 years ago triggered intense debate and awareness about energy conservation and renewable energy around the world. Since then, countries have responded in dramatically different ways to the associated opportunities and challenges. This roundtable session will discuss the lessons available from how Canada and Sweden chose different paths.

Why did these two countries with similar geographies and climates have such different outcomes? Why have some policies and practices that are considered the norm in Sweden remained an exception here in Canada? How does this affect what we can expect over the next 40 years?

Moderated by CBC Radio Metro Morning Producer Mary Wiens, recently back from her own tour of Sweden, the Canadian Urban Institute invites you to attend this session with a panel featuring:

Lars Henriksson Honorary Consul, Business Sweden
Julia Langer CEO, Toronto Atmospheric Fund
Peter Halsall President, Canadian Urban Institute
