Travelling with your pets this summer?

Travel tips from SAS

Planning to bring your pet with you when traveling with SAS? Here are some travel tips to make the trip more enjoyable.

Pets are welcome to travel onboard SAS. Depending on the animal’s breed, size, weight, and age, they can either travel in the cabin, in the cargo hold, or be shipped as cargo. Bringing a pet is not included in your ticket and you will have to add it to your existing booking. Once you have decided that you will bring your pet, we strongly recommend that you request to add your pet within 24 hours of booking your own ticket. There is a fixed fee per carrier. We also recommend that you be at the airport at least 2 hours before departure to allow extra time for check-in and security when traveling with pets.

Make sure your pet has all the necessary documents required for air travel and for the pet to be allowed entry into the destination country. Different countries have different rules and requirements for documents, vaccinations, and quarantine. The embassies and the destination airport usually have more information about what rules are applicable.

Small cats and dogs are welcome onboard the flight in SAS Plus and SAS Go. Maximum weight is 8 kg, or 17 lbs. Your pet can also travel in style and join you in the SAS lounge at no extra cost. However, cats and dogs are not allowed in the lounges in Norway due to local regulations. You can find more information on how to travel with your pet on SAS here: Traveling With Animals – In the Cabin or in the Cargo Section | SAS (flysas.com)

Passport validity
Check your passport well in advance of your upcoming trip. The rules for passport validity vary between the countries. For Scandinavia, you are currently required to have a passport that is valid for at least three months beyond the period of stay. More information on this can be found on immigration pages for each country.
