The ZHyRON project has been launched to pioneer a new process for recycling steelmaking byproducts based on the use of green hydrogen.
A new EU-funded project, called ZHyRON, aims to pioneer a valorisation pathway for steel-making byproducts rich in iron and zinc, with the goal of enhancing the sustainability and circularity of the steel industry. It kicked off on 23 January in Zaragoza (Spain) with its team of nine companies and institutions from six European countries. Although valorisation processes already exist in this field, they rely on high CO2 emissions, compelling the metallurgical industry to transition to hydrogen as part of its journey towards carbon neutrality.
