Update!

The video from the event is now available to watch.

This year, The Chamber is excited to offer you its first virtual Lucia Luncheon. Join us in celebrating one of the foremost cultural traditions of Sweden and a highlight of the Holiday season. Because of the pandemic, we cannot meet in person, but the silver lining is that we can extend our reach (right around the world) and share the celebration with many more.

This cultural event is an opportunity to give your employees, colleagues, clients, friends and family a way to connect and participate in a unique experience — especially this year when it is important that we all come together and celebrate the light.

NEW! BIDDING IS NOW OPEN.

A Silent Auction

This year, we are mixing it up a bit with a Virtual Silent Auction. There are some wonderful items to be won, thanks to our amazing sponsors, so check out the available pieces, choose the one you would like, and put in your bid!

English text

Buying pants, is a test for many,
They’re rarely as good as they should.
They are either too long, too short or too tight,
But a schnapps fits always… just right!

Lucia processionLucia is an ancient mythical figure with an abiding role as a bearer of light in the dark Swedish and Canadian winters.

To those unfamiliar with the tradition, the Annual candlelit Lucia procession on December 13 is perhaps one of the exotic-looking Swedish customs. Girls and boys clad in white full-length gowns singing songs together.

The real candles once used are now often replaced with battery-powered ones, but they still create a special atmosphere when the lights are dimmed, and the sound of the children singing grows louder as they enter from an adjacent room.

The Julbord (Christmas Buffet) is one of the most classic elements of Swedish-ness! Depending where you live in Sweden, the dishes can vary. Traditionally, food is served in rounds or courses:
    1. Fish dishes: focusing on pickled herring (sill)
    2. Gravlax, poached salmon, shrimp salad, cod roe eggs, cheese, crisp bread
    3. Cured meats (including the fabled Christmas ham), more bread, and probably some pâté
    4. Warm dishes, with meatballs, sausage (prinskorv), a potato and cream casserole (Janssons frestelse), and sometimes bread dipped in pork broth (dopp i grytan)
After that, it’s dessert and/or cheese with crackers, finished off with some coffee and perhaps a few sweets and assorted cakes. If you would like to prepare your own Swedish Julbord – Christmas Buffet, you will find all the best recipes here

Oh, 2020! What a buffet of uncertainty you have brought!
Causing us all to rethink hand hygiene — who would have thought!

Despite the new reality, we must all unite:
For an opportunity to drink snaps and celebrate the bearer of light!

Lucia Luncheon

A celebration of light.
