Getinge Canada: Transforming cost into healthcare – Press release

Technology by Sweden’s Getinge Group is Transforming cost into Healthcare

TORONTO, Jan. 30, 2012 /CNW/ – Innovative Technology Conserves Resources and Generates Savings.

Since installing the Getinge 88 Turbo Washer/Disinfector system at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, the hospital has saved more than $342,000 annually according to a paper published by Healthcare Quarterly in 2009 authored by Abdool Karim.

The savings have come from reduced consumption of water, electricity, detergents, overtime and part time labour. The automated washing and disinfection system – which cleans and disinfects medical devices – also increased productivity.

“Sunnybrook has reported outstanding results,” says Doug Friesen, President of Getinge Canada Limited a division of The Getinge (pronounced ‘Getting-a’) Group, a leading, Swedish-based global medical company that developed the advanced washer/disinfectors.

On January 30th at the MaRS Center in Toronto, Friesen will provide an update on further developments made by Getinge in support of the financial challenges facing the healthcare system in Ontario.

“The financial savings from these initiatives can go directly into healthcare,” says Friesen.

The Seminar will feature remarks by His Excellency Teppo Tauriainen, Sweden’s Ambassador to Canada, a keynote address by Mr. Michael Decter, President, LDIC with presentations by;

Ray Racette, President and CEO of the Canadian College of Health Leaders.
Mimi Lowi-Young, CEO, Central West Local Health Integration Network,
Mark Walton, Partner, Healthcare Practice KPMG
Len Kleine, President and CEO, Sigma Telemed Inc
Doug Friesen, President of Getinge Canada Limited

Getinge Canada is hosting a seminar and panel discussion with Canadian and Swedish health care leaders and professionals to share ideas for producing better patient outcomes while generating cost savings. This is part of “Innovative Sweden,” a three week exhibition at MaRS Centre.
