This is the first of four total newsletters from the Swedish Trade Council / Exportrådet in the U.S. and Canada in 2012. BIO 2012 – Be part of the Scandinavia Pavilion!

The world’s largest biotech trade show, BIO Annual International Convention, is held in Boston June 18-21, and the Swedish Trade Council hosts a pavilion together with the other Nordic countries. With more than 15,000 visitors and a strong focus on partnering meetings, BIO has become the event to attend within the life science industry.

Join Urban Planning and District Energy Tour to Canada

Swedish Trade Council invites Swedish companies to participate in urban planning and energy workshops in Canada’s capital Ottawa, as well as attend the Canadian District Energy Association’s Annual conference in mid-June. Ulrika Jardfelt, President of the Swedish District Heating Association (Svensk Fjärrvärme) will participate and speak at the conference.

Winter Maintenance Industry Booming in Canada

The Swedish Trade Council’s office in Toronto has recently completed a report investigating the opportunities available to Swedish companies within winter road and rail maintenance in Canada. The results of the report confirm that Canadian road and rail authorities face a series of challenges within winter maintenance. Some of these challenges STC believes can be solved in part by use of innovative Swedish road & rail maintenance products.

Record-Breaking Year at the Fancy Foods Show

This January the Swedish Trade Council attended the Winter Fancy Foods Show in San Francisco in order to gain insight into developments in specialty foods, and evaluate opportunities for Swedish companies. Attendance at this year’s show was the highest in the show’s 37 year history, with over 18,000 buyers present, indicating a recovered and strong industry.

Innovative Sweden Session Challenges Canada’s Health Care System

The Innovative Sweden travelling exhibit made its stop in Toronto on January 23- February 10, 2012. This three week long exhibit featured informational sessions and panel discussions about Swedish innovation in the areas of life science, ICT, clean tech and gaming, coupled with an interactive exhibition highlighting new Swedish innovations from 21 companies.

S.A.G.A: U.S. delegation to World Bioenergy 2012 in Jönköping

The 5th edition of World Bioenergy, Sweden’s largest conference and expo within the bioenergy segment, will be arranged in Jönköping, May 29-31. The Swedish Trade Council, in cooperation with Svebio and the Swedish Energy Agency will bring U.S. stakeholders, such as project managers, mayors and other decision makers to the conference.

S.A.G.A: State of Renewal, Louisiana Welcomes SymbioCity

SymbioCity, the concept of Sweden’s approach to sustainable urban development, continues to gain an U.S. audience. In January, the Swedish Trade Council traveled to Louisiana, a state which in the past decade witnessed two major environmental catastrophes—the hurricane that decimated New Orleans, and the offshore oil spill.

S.A.G.A: New Green Building Business Opportunities in the U.S.

The Swedish Trade Council has prepared reports on the growth of ‘Green Hospitals’ and the ‘Green Retrofitting’ industries in the U.S.. Green Building concepts have become more common and more utilized in the U.S. in recent years, and opportunities for Swedish companies experienced within these niche fields will be growing in the near future.
